What are some examples of positive stress?

Positive stress

Stress is often associated with a negative state that is harmful to the body and the individual. Yet under certain conditions, it is not useless.

However, it is still necessary to know how to use it positively.So, how to positiver stress and use it wisely? Answers in our tip.

How stress works

Stress is a normal response to your body’s adaptation to certain constraints and aggressions that everyone suffers every day: traffic jams, delays in work, overwork etc.

This adaptation to stress concerns several systems:

  • physiological regulation and defense : including the adrenal glands via the hormones secreted by them.These hormones help us cope with stressors in the long term by converting protein into energy.
  • psychological and behavioral : in the face of prolonged stress we can observe several symptoms: irritability, relationship difficulties, anxiety phenomena, etc.

Indeed, facing a danger, your body will adapt to help you fight against this danger or escape it.

As soon as a person is in a difficult situation, the stress operates in the body through the release of chemicals, but also in the psyche through the release of emotions.

Acceleration of breathing, chronic fatigue, muscle tension, headaches are all symptoms and efforts that obviously require a lot of energy to our body.

Good to know

: the definition of the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work mentions that “a state of stress occurs when there is an imbalance between the perception that a person has of the constraints imposed by his environment and the perception it has of its own resources to cope with it ”

How to use positive stress

In order to reduce the impact of stress and its deleterious effects, we can try to make this stress positive and make it an ally.

Indeed, there is no ‘good’ or ‘bad’ stress at the start, but simply ways to make it useful and even beneficial in some cases.

In a few rare situations, using stress as a motor can improve:

  • concentration ;
  • overcoming oneself (sports competitions, etc.);
  • the workload performed.

These situations are however to be taken with caution.

Indeed, according to a study published in 2010 where the consequences of stress on company performance were analyzed, it appears that “positive” stress:

  • is beneficial only under certain circumstances and in small doses;
  • is in 75% of the cases, a source of decrease of the performance.

For positive stress: what attitude to adopt?

Stress management is greatly dependent on each person’s personal story.

It will then be necessary to take several parameters into account so as not to be overwhelmed by stress and know how to use it, even to be able to evacuate quickly.

Learning to manage your own stress is important for your health and also your work efficiency.

On the other hand, the fact remains that, biologically, the result is the same.

If the stress is prolonged, even if it is perceived positively, it will have an impact on health.

As with everything, the stress experienced is therefore a matter of good dose to undergo.

We therefore advise as for any difficult situation, to learn how to evacuate the stress by:

  • the sport ;
  • relaxation ;
  • breathing.

Do not hesitate to consult a doctor if your mind or body is subjected to too much stress.
